A nerve cell has one long arm-like extension coming off of the cell body called an Axon. They also have short Dendrite extension coming off of the cell body. It has a nucleus inside the cell body. Covering the Axon and acting as an insulator is the Myelin Sheath. At the end of the Axon are Axon terminals.
Function:
The function of a nerve cell is to deliver nervous messages to certain parts of the body. The Axon is long so it can reach into areas and it also provides a pathway for messages to travel through to get where they need to go.
