How does the Circulatory System and the Nervous System interact?
The central organ of the nervous system is the brain. The brain is a mass of nerve cells. Your brain is needed to think and act. When you Contract a muscle, the brain sends a message down the spinal chord to the muscle. Neurotransmitters at nerve endings trigger the muscle to contract. The nervous system interacts with the circulatory system because the part of the brain closest to the spinal chord is the medulla. It controls and regulates heart rate. If it realizes the body needs more oxygen the heart rate will increase.
