THis is the smooth muscle cell. They contain more then one nucleui to activate each other. They fit each other pretty well so they can activate each other without a command from the brain.

The digestive system and the cells interact in many ways. One of the ways they interact is that the digestive organs are made of smooth muscle cells. The stomach, sm. intestines, lg. intestines, and the esophagus are made up of smooth muscle. The smooth muscles make it possible for the organs in the digestive system to squeeze or churn without command and they do it automatically. This is possible because the smooth muscle cells have a lot of nucleui make it possible for the cells to activate each other when touching so that they don't need a command to do all the contracting. The think myosin and the thin actin slide on each other to create contraction to activate cells around it to make it involuntary. This is just one cell that interacts with the digestive system,

Another cell type that interacts with the digestive system is the cardiac muscle cells. Though the cardiac cells are only in the heart, the heart is responsible for pumping blood that carries the nutrients and glucose to the other cells that need to go through cellular respiration. The cardiac muscles are a combination of a smooth muscle and a skeletal muscle. It is involuntary so it works on its own without command and it is part skeletal so that it can grow and it can pump. This is how the cardiac muscle cell interacts with the digestive system.

A third cell that the digestive system depends on is the nerve cells. The nerve cells are in the brain, in the medulla and with out the medulla it would not be able to make the stomach churn. Nerve cells send the message from the medulla to the stomach to churn. This is a basic body function. The nerve cells have long extensions called axons that send the message to the stomach. They are long so that the cells can send the message to the stomach in time with when you need it. The nerve, smooth muscle, and cardiac muscle cells all help to allow the digestive system to work.
