Skin Being on the front line on the war against disease, it is a major part of the immune system. meaning that it helps protect all organs from disease, including the muscular system.skin-layers-picture.jpg It is made of 3 main layers the dead skin on top called the epidermis, the living later is the dermis, and the fat layer is the hypodermis. it surrounds the entire body to prevent bacteria, fungi and virus from entering the body. Without the skin then a simple bacteria could attach to the muscle cells and work its way into the blood stream. then from the blood stream the bacteria can grow and divide, infecting the entire body. Which would kill are cells and us. Even if we fight that one off more would enter. Skin also works like a layer of protection in another way. It has a layer of stored fat that it uses to help insulate the body. It also uses this fat to act like a cushion against impact.
