Skin and Ecosystem!

Sun and Ecosystem

One part of the ecosystem is the sun. The sun can be harmful to your skin because the sun's rays can be very damaging to the skin. The rays can burn or tan the skin. The sun can also change your hair color from a dark brown to a light brown. What does your skin do? The lighter skin you have, the bigger risk you have of getting melonoma (skin cancer). So make sure you lather on lots of waterproof sunscreen before going swimming at the beach!

You use your skin when you feel grass, frogs, water etc... you need your skin to feel the cool
things in the environment.

Sunburn
Check out this link for more information on sunburn: sunburn

Have you ever gone to the beach and have gotten your skin burned? That is caused by UV rays and when you get exposed to too much of them, your skin can burn and believe me, it's painful.
Some people can burn more easily than others. If you have light colored skin and light colored eyes and hair, you'll get burned more easily than someone who has dark colored skin, eyes, and hair. The more melanin (a chemical in the skin) you have, the longer it takes for your skin to get burned.

Sunburns can cause blisters on your skin. Sunburns can risk your chance of getting wrinkles when you get older. So make sure you do these two things:
1. Always wear sunscreen
2. Take frequent breaks from the sun by going indoors or moving into the shade.

Skin Cancer

Find out more information about Skin cancer (Melanoma) Melanoma

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that if not treated early enough can be deadly. Melanoma is started in the upper part of the epidermis that produces the pigment that gives skin its color. The
the part where Melanoma is started in the epidermis.

Melanoma starts in the melanocytes-a type of skin cell that produces pigment. Melanocytes cluster together to form moles. Some people have dozens of moles, but they usually don't cause problems. Moles have many characteristics; they can be flat or raised, dark or light, etc. But sometimes, melanocytes can malfunction. They can start to form moles uncontrollably and start to form CANCER! Luckily, when melanoma is caught early, it can be treated easily. But if you don't treat it right away, it can start to form in other places like blood vessels and the lymphatic system. These two system act like a highway for melanocytes. That's why it's really good if you detect melanoma early.
