The skin interacts with the immune system because the skin acts as the first line of defense against pathogens. The fat in the dermis insulates heat, and the pores in the epidermis keeps your body cool. If the body was too hot then, if there were pathogens that came inside the body from another entrance, it would be easy for them to reproduce. Also the epidermis sheds dead skin cells that may have stuck to your skin, and gotten into your mouth or nose and infected your body. The skin is vital for your body's health because without it you would die.
