Skin Structure: The skin has many parts in the system. Such as skin surface, epidermis (living cells), epidermis (dead cells), dermis, fat cells, sweat glands, ducts, pores, blood vessels, smooth muscle, oil glands, hairs, receptors, and nerves.

Skin Function:
Skin surface: Acts as the fist line of defense. It's also tough and flexible.
Epidermis: Is the surface of the skin, the top layer is dead cells, and the bottom layer is living. the living cells replace the dead cell the fall off your body. the living cells also produce more cells to replace the old ones. Your hair and nails are also formed from epidermal cells.(There are no blood vessels in the epidermis.)
Dermis: It's beneath the epidermis. it is thicker than the epidermis and contain blood vessels and many other parts. some of the of the parts in the dermis are nerves, glands, smooth muscle, and the roots of hairs, receptors, fat, and connective tissue.
Fat: The fat is located in the dermis. The fat keeps the body insulated. The thickness of the fat varies from one part of the body to the other. Fat is important for regulating body heat.
Pores: Pores are located at the surface of the skin. Water and excess wast comes from the sweat gland up and out of the pores, and keep the body cool. The pours are also important for regulating body heat. (The water that comes out of the pores is salty)
Blood Vessels: Blood vessels is located in the dermis. Blood vessels give the epidermis and dermis cells oxygen and nutrients and collect the CO2 and other wast products.
Oil Glands: Oil glands produce oil that makes the skin waterproof.
Nerves Endings: The nerve endings that are found in the dermis tell you how things feel when you touch them. They are also part of the Nervous system. the Nerve endings work with your muscles so you don't get hurt.
Hair: The hair on you body grow out if a tube that is called the follicle. The follicle goes way down to the fat layer in the dermis. The hairs rely on your swat gland to give it its
shine.
Receptors: Are nerves that also receive messages. There are many receptors in the dermis. There are also part of the nervous system.
Connective Tissue: Skin is held in place by connective tissue. Connective tissue is elastic fibers that allow your skin to stretch and spring back into place.
Smooth Muscle: The smooth muscle makes your hair stand on end when your scared or cold. That's why you cant control your goosebumps.(goosebumps happens when you hair stand on end)

Overall the skin is the first line of deference against germs. The skin relates body temperature, so your body does not get too hot or too cold. Cells keep replacing themselves so you always have your epidermis. The skin also produces Hair that the oil Gland can keep shiny. Now that you have read the structure function of the skin, I hope you know how important and how useful the skin is. For more about the skin go to Your skin.
