The skeletal system protects our respiratory system. It keeps it from being damaged or injured from blows impacted by the environment. The costa protects the lungs, a major organ in the respiratory system. The costa even has muscles called the inter-costal muscles that help inhale and exhale by expanding and decreasing the air pressure allowing air to flow in and out when needed. The bones also help keep the shape of the respiratory system by creating a protective shell that insures the job of the respiratory system which is to supply oxygen for the cells and getting rid of the Co2 created through cell respiration.
